The European Forum Alpbach will kick off on Sunday with the traditional "Tyrol Day" of the European region of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. Among those announced to attend are regional governors Anton Mattle (ÖVP, Tyrol), Arno Kompatscher (SVP, South Tyrol), and Maurizio Fugatti (Lega, Trentino). As always, the event will center on the traditional regional reception in the village square, including speeches and a riflemen's parade.
The subsequent event at the Congress Center included a keynote speech by Wifo head Gabriel Felbermayr and an interview session with former EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker (EPP). This year's Alpbach Forum will take place from August 16 to 29 – for the first time under the leadership of the new Forum President and former ÖVP Vice President of the European Parliament, Othmar Karas. Its motto is "Recharge Europe." The key themes identified in advance are "Security Union, Energy Union, and Capital Markets Union." The "Euregio Days," which will span four days for the first time, centered on "Tyrol Day," will kick off the event and focus on competitiveness in a changing European world.
